Wednesday's "Wabi"

This morning's early light... dancing off some daffodils
and a favorite little birdhouse in our front-yard flower garden.

Wednesday's Whimsy!

It certainly ranks right up there with some of my all-time
favorite quotes.  I found it years ago in a two-volume set
of Christina Rossetti's poetry that I picked up at a used bookshop.
  She makes this observation:

"Can anything be sadder than work left unfinished?
Yes, work never begun."

I was never very satisfied from the get-go with this guy...
so it's time to put him in the "unfinished, some-other-day-pile!"

Some "whimsy wisdom":
"Know when to let it go... and move on!"

Gonna have to hustle now, to come up with something for the
ADQ June 15th deadline!  Happy Holy Week Wishes... Daryle

The Companions Are Back!

These three have been sitting far too long
on my worktable...waiting!
So... today I began to give each one of them several
color washes and layers of acrylic paint.

Boo-Hoo... these poor chaps are STILL held together
with nothing more than pins and pieces of masking tape!

This guy has just wiggled his way into my heart!

And I'm really excited about the transparent wings
Yes... They look very natural!
I will be posting a "How-To" one of these Wednesdays.
(No insects were harmed in the production of these wings!)

OK... the truth is... this guy really wiggled his way into my heart!
Lamb's wool hair from a local sheep farm, here in Woodstown.

He looks so much like our oldest grandson!
(Who by the way, just started wearing glasses!)

Thank you for stopping by and taking a peek!  Daryle

Trolling, Trolling, Trolling Down the River..."

The Art Doll Quarterly Challenge: "Mythological Creatures"

I finally found some time to apply an additional layer of color
to my basecoat of raw umber!
(gettin' a little crazy in my old age)

Wishing you a week marked by wellness!

Troll...La, La, La, La... La, La, La, Laaaaaa!

With his batting wrapped body; he is still waiting for the last
of his paper clay fingers!  And... he now has over-sized, pointy ears.
(more pics on the way, one of these days...)

The dilemma: With temps in the low 70's this coming week,
I do believe I hear our gardens calling me!
Thank you for stopping by!  Daryle

A Troll by Any Other Name...

My attempt(S) during the past week
at creating a benevolent troll:

Clockwise beginning with the top right insert... #1.
The first attempted sculpt: perhaps "a gentle giant!"

Lower right... #2.
The second sculpt: "a weary, old man" (me, not the doll head!)

Left insert... Sigh!
I do believe we have "a Benevolent Troll!"

Sugaring Snow... in South Jersey?

Back in Vermont... they refer to this as "sugaring snow!"
Cold nights and warm days encourages the sap to flow!
Our friends back there in Addison County,
have been in the woods, boiling for a week now...
making gallons and gallons of "Vermont Gold!"
(Anyone for a short-stack of pancakes?)

Here in South Jersey... we refer to it as simply... "snow!"

Wabi...

I never "tire" of taking photographs of this yard-sale find.
Each year, I marvel at both the beauty and the resilience
of this birdhouse that hangs in our backyard.
The colors, the gentle warping of the wood, the wear-and-tear...
all are at the core of "wabi sabi"

Wishing you wellness of body, mind and spirit... Daryle
